They cannot help themselves — but we can help them
The souls in Purgatory rely on our prayers. Purified and awaiting the full vision of God, they cannot merit new grace for themselves — yet the Church on earth can offer prayers, Masses, and acts of mercy on their behalf.
Eternal Father, I offer You the Precious Blood of Jesus in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, especially those most forgotten. Bring them swiftly into Your light, let Your mercy wash over them, and welcome them into the embrace for which they have longed. Remember, O Lord, the souls of my family and friends who have gone before, and all who have no one to pray for them. Grant them eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon them.
AmenSmall acts, eternal effect
A missed meal, a moment of patience, a word withheld — offered quietly, these become treasures of grace for the Holy Souls.
Dedicate a Rosary — or a single decade — for the departed, asking Our Lady to lead them home.
At the Offertory and Consecration, silently commend the souls to the Father through the Sacrifice of the Son.
Let a flame burn in their memory — a visible prayer that Christ, their Light, will welcome them.
Pray especially for those with no one to remember them — the lonely souls most in need of mercy.
Spend time before the Blessed Sacrament on their behalf, uniting your heart to the Heart of Christ.
"It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from their sins."— 2 Maccabees 12:46
